Single-bottle temperature regulator

Post by beef »

Hi all,

Living in Queensland, I'm fed up with the temperatures at which I'm drinking my red wine. All I can taste is alcoholic heat, with none of the subtleties that I can appreciate in the exact same wines during the winter months.

To rectify this, I would like to buy a device that satisfies the following requirements:

- Not much larger than an ice bucket.
- Holds a single bottle of wine.
- Manipulates heat flow from/to said bottle, such that it's maintained at a user-specified temperature.
- Powered by batteries.

Does such a device exist?

Thanks,

Stuart

Never Mind. Just found this:

http://www.airandwatercentre.com/store/ ... etails.htm

Seems ideal. Just need to get one in Oz...

Don't know if your device exists, but if you were near a fridge or an esky you could place the wine in the fridge at the same time placing a thermometer next to it and try the wine when the thermometer hits your desired drinking temp, just a thought although it sounds like you may be a bit of a gadget guy, so this may be too simple for you

Being an engineer, I'm naturally predisposed to purchasing as many gadgets as possible :-)

The device I've mentioned has a number of advantages over the fridge/thermometer combo:

- You don't have to keep putting the wine in, and taking it out of, the cooling device (i.e. fridge) in order to maintain the required temperature.
- You don't have to get up from the dinner table every time you want a refill.
- It's battery-powered, so you can take it with you to a restaurant or on a picinc.

The device I found sounds ideal. I'm still looking for one that's available in Oz, however.

That device does look ideal, but if you can't import it, I guess you could always move, you know what they say 'beautiful one day, blown to smithereens the next!' Er sorry, what is the polite time to wait after a tragedy to start making jokes about it? I think it was about a day or two for 9/11, apologies to anyone affected by Larry, no offence intended.
