Hi Ernest,

I think you may get a few answers in either order of preference. At around $20 the Wynns is better value and may even be a better wine, but neither of these wines from a tough Coonawarra vintage made it into my cellar. Both too thin and slighly green-edged and/or acidic for my palate.

The only 2002 Coonwarra Cabernets I bought are the Penley Reserve and Reschke Bos and I'm not too sure about the latter yet.

Ernest...I had the Majella 02 on release and thought it was just ok. I had another bottle a few months back and thought it was way underatted. It was great. No note though...Sorry

I have not had the 02 Black Label. I had the 01 a couple of weeks ago and was very very dissapointed. Even with average reviews I thought it was poor, and I was not expecting too much.

03 is a much better vintage in Coonawarra than 02. You'd be much better off getting an 03 Majella instead (which is the current release). It's better than both of those 02's.

If you must have an 02 though for whatever reason, I'd go with the Majella, or a Parker Terra Rosa.

I bought a dozen for the cellar, basically because most reviews have said this wine is OK, and my personal experience has been that they are always a good drink after a few years. The last time I bought more than two was 1998. They are drinking fine. Anyway, I opened one of my dozen 2002s the other night, and for the first couple of hours it smelled fine but tasted a bit dirty, musty, tart, flat - kindof like corked, but not. After several more hours' breathing, it opened up nicely, and I found myself really enjoying the wine. I won't try another for a couple more years, and I'm confident they will be nice.

Incidentally, I wrote a while back about the extreme bottle stink associated with the 2001 Moondah Brook Cabernet. Now, as a matter of course (as I have a dozen left), I open and decant 4 hours or so before drinking, and they transform into a nice drink.

I didnt think much of the 02 Majella but I know many did. The 02 Parker is a good pick from this vintage, although I didnt even buy that!
