Just felt like a cabernet from Mt Barker, so pulled this out of the cellar - even though it was earmarked for next year.
What a treat - as good as ever. Medium intense garnet red - still no orange. Intense nose! Blackcurrant, cedar, pencil shavings, chocolate and tobacco - fabulous nose! This wine has always had an amazing bouquet. Wonderful sweet zesty acid fruit palate - loads of life left but beautiful now. Fabulous wine. Just a shame subsequent vintages haven't lived up to it.
Only one of the dozen left now. Better make sure that PaulV gets to taste the last one.

Goundrey Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 1996
Good to hear this one is still going, drank my last a few years ago. I agree they haven't seemed to be able to repeat the quality/longevity of this one. On a positive note, JO rates the 2003 vintage quite highly with a more lengthy drinking window than anything since the 96, don't think it's released yet.
Cheers

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)
