Salitage Pinot Noir 2000- Varietal nose of cherry plum and strawberries. Decanted which opened the palate somewhat. Not overly complex but a good solid follow on from the nose-good flavour and length.
Not the structure of the 01 Pinot;which I feel will be very interesting in a few years.
Went well with Peking Duck from the "First Chinese" restaurant-how many first Chinese restaurants have we seen around the place!
Pemberton suffers from the Heathcote Syndrome. Talked up a little beyond realistic expectations. Like Heathcote now, recovering from the hype and doing solid things, Pemberton will do similar in the future.
Wolf Blass 1998 Show Reserve Shiraz-Interesting as the region the Barossa and Limestone Coast. Wolf Blass shiraz from a mile off! Ripe, mouthfilling shiraz. New oak to match. Barossa dominant with ripe blackberry but a confusing feral undertone, which may or may not be a characteristic of Limestone Coast shiraz? Good for a blind tasting.
Very much a Wolf Blass style. I think this is export only? I like the style once or twice a month.
