Was given a magnum of 98 Chapel Hill "The Vicar"Shiraz for my 40th and am thinking of keeping it for my 50th(5yrs away)
Anyone tried one recently and do you think it will last that long ?

If you do a search on the forum you'll find quite a few comments on this controversial wine.

The last 750ml bottle I had last year was superb, but I'm in the distinct minority with TORB and a number of others at the same time striking ordinary wines that they concluded wouldn't improve, and flogged them off.

It will also depend on how you like to drink your wines - with big, bold youthful fruit and oak or developed with subtle nuances of bottle age.

I've just opened a 1990 Chapel Hill Shiraz (not a reserve) today that looks like it's only just hanging in there. I'll see how it goes with the lamb roast for dinner and post a full note tonight or later this week.

This probably doesn't help a lot, but if you're in doubt and not an optimist like me, and/or prefer your wines younger and bolder, I'd say drink up and look for an alternative for your 50th.

Cheers,
Ian
