Looks like it was bottled yesterday, deep garnet in color. The nose is full of nicely ripe Syrah fruit, very clean. Lots of dark berries on the palate, a bit of anise and mint, tannins are there, but in the background, providing excellent balance together with some nice acidity, and a medium length, very pleasant finish. Wish I could still buy wine of this quality for the US$18 I paid originally.
Regards,
Alan

Yeah weren't the 02 Bin 28 around AUS$16 when released here a few months ago?

Dunno about Melbourne - here it wsa $25 RRP but heavy discounting/bulk buying got it as low as $18.
It goes a fair way to show the difference between Pennies perceived marketing price and what the public will actually pay for it.

Yeah, I figured you guys would jump on me for claiming US$18 was a good price

Particularly when our dollar was worth almost twice yours at the time! Penfolds was cleaning up on this. And still, it
was a good price up here in absolute terms for the quality of wine in the bottle. And we can go the other way if you like. I'm paying US$17 for 2002 Bin 389 right now
Cheers,
Alan

Hi Alan,
I love this wine. I think the 96 was the best from this label since the 91. I'm leaving the rest of mine for some years yet.

Mike,
Didn't this wine win our 1996 vintage line up last year? From memory it beat some pretty impressive wines.

You are correct indeed - finished in front of Wynns Michael, St Henri, Chalie Melton among others.
