2002 Sanguine Estate Heathcote Shiraz and 2001 Elderton Shir
2002 Sanguine Estate Heathcote Shiraz and 2001 Elderton Shir
Tried these side by side last night and will retry the remaining half bottle of the Sanguine tonight. These wines are like ‘chalk and cheese’. The Elderton has lovely sweet, vanilla scented (oak), smoky, luscious fruit, with a good tannin structure, a lovely wine. By way of contrast, the Sanguine was really disappointing, we found it had an unpleasant bitterness from start to finish i.e. on the nose, mid palate and particularly the finish. I didn’t like it at all and I’m uncertain as to whether it will ever come around. However, I’ll retry tonight for a second opinion.

Hello
Not tried the Sanguine but agree 100% about the Elderton. I think the warm 2001 vintage really suits Elderton's style, its a lovely wine and great value.
