Landed Unit Cost is the same as Grange I believe, so $449 isn't a surprise...

Certainly not: it's a very good bottle of Burgundy or three....

Even at those prices I am tempted to grab a couple of each for the cellar, and plus you have the choice of either cork or screwcap, which is never a bad thing.

yeah but what if everyone goes screwcap?? how does the allocation work then?... or are they going to bottle under different closures on request?

Well I suppose if your buying it 1 1/2 years before you actually receive it, they will just run off what ever is required.

I asked this question at the Penfolds Masterclass six months ago, and the decision on closures is fixed at 50/50, regardless if opinion changes and the buying public all decide they want the one closure. At the moment retailers expect to get the closure they've ordered, but delivery is the good part of two years away and that could change; if Penfolds don't fulfil their requests I think you can expect a lot of pissed off retailers and customers.

It's been speculated for a while that the final price will fall somewhere between $350-$600, depending on the retailer. The price should roughly equate to the same as Grange in a fair market, but likewise expect a fair amount of blatant profiteering. En Primeur may be a well established practice for imports, but if things go wrong this exercise could blow up in Penfolds face.

Cheers
Ian

Early reports show the block 42 is a better wine but will the 60a be better in time?
