Moss Wood Cab 00, Leeuwin Art Chard 94, BP Res Pinot 98

Went out to dinner with a friend to cheer him up and had a great night.

Was a big night so notes are more just brief notes.

Started with the 94 Art Series Chardonnay which for a chardy approaching 10 years old this wine was absolutely awesome. Close to perfect for an aged australian chardonnay. Still heaps of acid and the mouthfeel was incredible, not really showing its age, more its class. This wine will live for another 5-8 years.

Then a 94 Tarrawarra Pinot was consumed which seemed a little tight but tannic. Not showing much pinot-likeness and a tad dissapointing. Maybe with age it will open up and show some fruit, maybe with age the fruit will fade further and just leave a tannic shell.

Next was the Bass Phillip Reserve 98 Pinot which was absolutely brilliant. 2nd bottle consumed within a year and both times proved what a classy, feral and funky wine this is. More complexity than nearly any other aussie pinot I have had. Colour seemed dirtier, murkier and more aged than the tarrawarra but absolutely ate it on the night.

Then followed the Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 1990. Still really a pup that could do with another 10 years bottle age. Considering this wine i already 13 years old it is quite an achievement. A very classy wine that was still vibrant purple in the glass. Not in the block-buster all-out style of Cabernet, rather more refined with blackcurrant, dark plum and cedar showing the way up front. Amazing length and depth on the palate.

Finished off the night (and increased the hangover the next day) with Seppelt Rare Tokay. Great, bring it on Seppelt!!

Whilst tipping this: Leasingham Bin 61 Clare Valley Shiraz 2001. In short close to as good as the 1998 and way out in front of the 2000 and 1999.

Not a bad week for drinking wine,

Cheers

Good warm ups for an offline Anthony. If that was just the warm up I look forward to the upped ante.
