TN: 2001 Katnook Estate Cab Sauv
Colour is dark, dense red. There is plenty to be found on the nose, which is unmistakably varietal. A rich whiff, with vegetal characters of beetroot, soy and tomato leaf mingling politely with chocolate, blackcurrant and subtle vanillin oak. I want this in those ambi-pur pumps and circulated throughout my flat – great nose. The flavours across the palate have an enjoyable earth nuance, almost leathery, with blackcurrant and liquorice evident. Tannins are a little dusty, yet I think this helps drive the length of the finish which is long and satisfying. A thoroughly enjoyable cabernet that shows a lot of promise.
Enjoyed with the ‘event’ that was me cooking a lamb recipe for dinner, the notes of the meal can be found here: http://forum.auswine.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3602
Cheers,
