There seems to be some confusion about whether these two varieties are identical (mondeuse in France and refosco in Italy) Does anyone have an opinion, or better still a definitive referenece?
cheers

Darby,
A long held belief, but from what I can gather it looks unlikely. Have a google and you will find a surprising amount of information, the most recent of which suggests not. As for definitive findings, good luck!
Funnily the Mondeuse plantings is Australia seemingly have more in common with the Refosco style from Friuli in northern Italy, than the more medium bodied Mondeuse Noir from the Rhone Alps.
Perhaps speak with Andrew Buller or a viticulturalist at Brown Bros if you are hard up for information.
