Australia Post has released five stamps depicting various aspects of wine production and consumption. The stamps contain photographic quality images of a vineyard or ripe grapes on the two paired 50 cents stamps, harvesting and wine casks on the two paired $1.00 stamps, and red and white wine in wineglasses on the $1.45 stamp. A variety of different Australia Post products containing the wine stamps have been produced including booklets of stamps, a First Day Cover, and Maximum Cards. The latter is my choice to collect as the image on each card continues the theme depicted in the accompanying stamp.

AustraliaÂ’s Wine Stamps
Bah Humbug! There speaks a reformed stamp collector - back when I was a kid the stamps produced were actually used on letters and parcels so you could start collecting used and branch out into mint as a development. Now I hardly ever see a stamp on my mail. Meanwhile post office keep coming up with more and more stupid ways to try and rip off collectors - I mean to say what is a "prestige booklet", not to mention endless minisheets with promotional gutter strips
As it happens, probably the biggest reason I stopped adding to the stamp collection was I started to cellar wine Can't help but think many more hours pleasure in wine than stamps. One day I'll have to work out what to do with the stamps - pretty serious Australian collection upto about 1990 but missing the really top end. Then again it is just stashed at the folks place so might be in a dodgy state
