TN: 2002 Winstead Reserve Pinot Noir

2002 Winstead Reserve Pinot Noir - Bagdad, Southern Tasmania
Very fruit sweet. Rich, dark plums and dark cherries. Intensely aromatic with sweet spices and cinnamon. Very deep and fleshy. Oak is bolstering. Very good use as it gives the wine a dry, slightly pencil shaving quality that contrasts the sweet fruit well. It is not shaving cream or char like. Good structure under the masses of fruit. Took 2 hours to open. The wine will get better over the next 3 years as the fruit develops totally into the oak. I prefer this just as much as the standard ($30), although this might improve more than the standard with time. Both are excellent wines. 18.2/20, 93/100. RRP $46.
