Greg Norman Estates Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Post by Grant »

I'm not having a lend of anyone when I say that this is the best red wine I have tried this year. Period. It does seem quite obtuse that it has the name of a pro golfer on it, but the quality of the wine in the bottle speaks for itself.

Quite simply, this wine is a class act. To dissect it into its myriad parts would take a boring eternity, blah upon blah; there is a lot to say in its favour. However, I think the best thing you can say about a wine is that you can't find any faults, or negatives that detract from the overall impression. Balanced, powerful, ever so classy, with the finest of fine tannins. No rough edges, even at such a young age. Fills every nook and cranny of the palate, with a finish that lingers magnificently. This can only get better with time in bottle, a classic wine. 96 points

Here's the catch- this wine is only available in the U.S. A bit strange, given Sharkey's icon status here, but look out for it in your travels.

Cheers

Was it very cabernet like?

At an offfline with the Adelaide crew recently, was fortunate enough to try the Greg Norman Reserve Shiraz 98- very much tailored for the US market.

Jamie,

I tried the 98 too and agree 100% with your comment.

Jamie,

Yes, unmistakeably a cabernet. Still quite a bit of fresh oak, but this is no sweet confectionary mix. It was at its best about 18 hours after opening, one of those wines you can't stop drinking, and without question its best is yet to come.

Of course, I havn't "unearthed" anything here, this wine won Best Wine Of Show at the recent Royal Sydney gig. I think it actually won "Best" everything, so it is obviously a classy drop.

Cheers

I was fortunate to score a few bottles of the 98 Greg Norman Reserve Shiraz that "fell off an export pallet"

Damned god wine albeit made to the US palate style. That wine was McV fruit, was the Cabernet Coonawarra?

If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!

Is it/will it be available here? Guesstimate of price? Would be disappointed if it all went to the US.

cheers,

Guys,

80% Coonawarra, 20% Padthaway.

My info is that it is an export only brand, and all wine will be going to the US. It never bothered me in the past, but I wouldn't mind owning some of this.
