I will jump in as a newbie poster.
Not a tasting note as such but a tasting impression. Here goes. 99 Grange is not a huge grange, and shortly after release it showed the first signs of leathery, earthy tertiary developed characters. There is still lots of fresh fruit there though and as a south australian who has been lucky enough to have a bit of grange in my time, I believe that the 1999 has a lot more classic grange character than other more lauded releases over recent years. Personally, I believe that the 99 will mature as well or better than the 98. That is my view.
Talking of Grange, I read a really good article on it via winefront monthly yesterday. One of the most beautiful pieces of wine writing I have ever read. Anyone else read it?
hope I have answered on the 99.
Chris.

Sounds close to the mark but dont think the early flavours/drinkablity of the 98 will inhibit its cellar life. Not sure on the 99 but 98 will go for a long long time.

Welcome Chris, don't make it your last post!
Yep, read it twice, a great piece of wine journalism, I sent a congratulatory e-mail to Campbell.
If you're into wine you really should subscribe to Winefront Monthly, by far the best read to be had in Australian wine for what is a piffling amount of $ per annum.
