Dom Perignon

Hi all...Just curious how good this is. To me a non regular champ drinker your average champs tastes like cough medicine. Ive had Pol Roger white label and it was much better than regular cheap champagne. How does this compare to Dom? How long will say a 96 Dom cellar for?

Dom's are one of my absolute favorites. Bit finer leaner tighter and more acid than the Pols etc. Had a 95 Dom last week (absolutely corked!).
They have a super prmium Dom D'Oenotheque which for a few dollars more is stunning. Had the 92 at a tasting in Melbourne last year.
Amazing!
It was explained to me that you are either a Pol/Dom fine & lean or a Krug/Bollinger person....big leesy and fat!
Structurally I'm built like a Bollie, but my tastebuds are 100% Dom.
For a very reasonable price try the 96 Veuve Cliquot (Grand Dame), these have improved bigtime over the last 4-5 vintages, and are not as coarse as most mid price vintage.

Smithy, are you sure the Oeno was the 1992? 1990 is the current release I believe....but it is simply stunning champers.
Essetially Oeno is just normal dom but kept on lees for longer and disgorged later.

If you are going to buy Dom, move quickly while the 96 is available. Absolute superb booze and the best since 90 IMO (and from what I hear, vintages in the late 90s weren't as good).

Youre absolutely correct. It was the 90 D'Oenotheque. Didn't realise its just a longer lees aged Dom.
As far as the apparent dichotomy of the Wobbly Villa winemaker loving the lean fine acid style of bubbles, I'd argue that there is no dispute.
Both are full of flavour, not coarse or broad, with excellent acid.....and its all about BALANCE. We just do it at 16.5%alc.

Smithy, the 1990 is outstanding juice...its one of my fave all time champagnes...worth the entry price in my opinion.

$180 to $190 seems to be fair. Amazing how expensive it is by comparison to offshore though.

Just looking at Langtons certainly does'nt go cheap there. Their scale says $200-$250 + 15%. Last bottle went for $211.

What a tough call....the 1996 vintage is quite special and quite unlike any other vintage in history, for some reason they got great richness
and acidity, its quite unique and therefore one that you should have in the cellar...but can anything get better than the 1990 Oeno? I dont know...
Its a style thing, the Oeno 1990 is such a silky champagne, its like drinking clouds. Some love it, others prefer a bigger richer style.
