2001 Rockford "Local Growers" Semillon - 12% - $17 CD
A broad and very soft wine but with enough acidity to give a smooth, enjoyable finish although not as long as the 2000. Robert O'Callaghan describes it as a "slippery yellow wine that just invites itself to lunch", and this is quite apt, although it is not at all oily in case you get that impression. The wine consists of very lightly honeyed cream and butter, a little toast, ripe lemons, melon and lavender. It is not a wow, in-your-face wine, and some might call it boring, but it is a very enjoyable food wine of excellent balance and harmony through the whole palate. It is ready to drink now, on its release, but will develop a little more depth and complexity over the next 3 years. The flavours linger lightly quite well, and the back palate opens a little more with breathing. 16.4/20, 88/100.
