Hi People,

any tasting notes or views on this one would be very much appreciated. i have this bad habit of believing that guys who do whites well would probably do a good pinot too? i know, i am just asking to be taught an expensive lesson....

What happen to your MR Cabernet tasting?

Don't waste your hard earned dosh on a Australian Peenot. Get yourself some Charles Melton's Rose of Virginia instead.

To start with I don't like pinot, but I do love the Pierro whites.

I looked at the 2002 a couple of years back on an epic trip down Caves Road - which means I started near enough to Pierro to have a full grasp on my faculties at the time. I found the wine quite unpleasant, it had a porty Christmas pudding flavour that I found quite at odds with what I was expecting. As they had no spittoons that day - goodness knows why - this wine ended up on the bauxite outside.

The experience left me quite jaded, I really REALLY wanted to like the wine and I simply didn't. That said I then drove 500m down the road and looked at the 1993 Cullen Pinot and was simply blown away by its complexity and savoury olive/fetta notes.

I don't know, this variety, it meets you for a drink and promises you the world...but come morning it's Norwegian Wood.

thanks for the heads up guys....

dave u r a poet

re MR cab tasting... apologies, totally forgot about it! :? in any case, i left my tasting notes behind, it was THAT kind of evening... it was an excellent tasting nonetheless, it was apity the organiser did not do a consolidation of the votes of the 70 odd crowd, but at least at my table of 15, the general consensus was that..... drum roll...

1st - voyager cab merlot (served last)
2nd - tie between heytesbury (served 4th) and moss wood (served 3rd)
4th - devil's lair (served 2nd)
5th - cullen (served 1st)

no faulty wines whatsoever, the views above needs to be taken with big pinch of salt, i think this is a case of timing: the voyager is simply drinking very well at the moment, ie it fruit and acids showing very well, very well balanced, whereas the other wines some how appeared a bit plain in comparison.

any issue with the order in which the wines were served? i noticed that the preferences are in direct opposite of the serving order.

Hmmm Shach,

I am not one to kick a fella when he is down but I thought you might like to read some earlier comments

"hi davo

heytesbury to win? hmm, i tried the heytesbury a while ago and thot that whilst it is a good balanced elegant wine, it may be more duly appreciated on its own and not in a lineup with possibly bigger wines. i think its subtlety may get swallowed up in a sea of big acids and tannins, making it appear (and only appear) as diluted and lightweight? we will see.... just abt one hour away, and i am still in the office with a conference call coming up in 20mins time.... Shocked fingers crossed...

Oh well.
