I was recently given several bottles of the 1998 Blue Pyrenees Estate Reserve red but not having tried this or previous vintages was wondering if anyone one this learned forum would oblige me with some tasting notes or impressions.

Thanks in advance.

Bob.

Jeremy Oliver 93 points drink 2010-2018 {peak}

I have no notes but remember both the 98 and 99 being great drops.I wont be opening any for a couple more years yet but given you have been given "several" and you might not know how they were stored id give one a go now if i were you.

thanks for the quick reply.

i know that they have been stored appropriately and i am sort of tempted to crack one open as i enjoy watching the development of wines in my cellar. That said, i only have 3 and there is plenty of other things to open if not the BPE.

anyone have some ideas about how youthful the wine is at the moment?

I drink a little of the 99 which is far from ready. I think it is a style that benefits from time in the cellar.

I remember the 1998 from a few years ago and probably posted full tasting notes on the old forum. Anyway, I remember it to have lovely deep blueberry driven fruit with very good structure that carried the flavours well. No hurry to drink, but would still be very enjoyable now.
