TN: 1998 Mt. Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz

I tried to take this out for a stroll yesterday, but it just wasn't interested, so I corked it, stuck in the fridge, and figured I'd try again today.
Took it out a few hours ago, let it do some warm ups, and now, wow, what a change in attitude!
I really like this wine, and this style of shiraz. I've been weaned on the big, thick, chewy versions, but more and more, I think I prefer this. It's enveloping, but not smothering. It sticks around for awhile, but doesn't wear out it's welcome. It shows you a little bit, makes you wonder what else is in there, coaxes you along, and then gives you the goods.
Yeah, sure, whatever, but what does it smell like? And, more importantly, how does it taste???
I swear I smell Bazooka bubblegum. Or cotton candy. What is that smell???
But hey, there's more going on than just cheap sweets. There's a hint of charred cedar plank on the nose, along with a good dose of white pepper. Graphite. Very, very ripe plums.
On the palate, its just this side of silky smooth, with just enough tannins to make me think it could hang around a bit longer. Blackberry liqueur, a bit of menthol, chocolate, and some sweet oak.
All in all, I dig it.
Cheers!
