Pj
I was at CD last month and they were running short of the 01.
Henschke staff were enthusiastic about the 02.
Can't answer your question though.

Thanks for the reply, gentlemen.
Mal, thank you for the information. I must do my utmost to attend. I am from Melbourne. I am assuming the tasting will be at the South Melbourne store, rather than the St Kilda store? Also, do you know of a specific time when the tasting will be conducted?

PJ, Yes it's at the South Melbourne store, between 12 - 2, you will have to let me know what you think of the 2002, as I was hoping to be there myself, but will be at the Grampians Grape Escape that weekend.

For those interested the 02 notes have been put up on the Henschke website.
The 2002 Mt Edelstone is rated exceptional ( highest Henschke ranking ) with a cellaring peak of 2012+.
The " + " is curious and not typical of Henschke ratings. I suspect this is going to be a cracker and return to form!
Sometimes, an increase in Henschke vintage quality comes with an increase in the Henschke premium. Anybody noted pricing yet?

The '02 vintage wines from Henschke ought to be good, with Stephen - the winemaker himself - proclaiming 2002 was the best he'd ever seen. Now might be a good time to start saving for the '02 HoG...
I've been told by a colleague in the industry that the cost of '02 Edelstone will rise, perhaps by as much as $10. This could push the rrp upwards by at least 15%. Instead of a good buy at $60, the '02 may be hard to find under $70.
Cheers,

I know that both winefront monthly and winewise have already reviewed the 2002 mt edelstone. Can't remember what winefront wrote (it was about six months ago), but reading between the lines, I think that winewise thought it had a touch of brett, and didn't rate it so highly. Don't have the reviews in front of me. Has anyone got them?

Henschke Mt Edelstone 2001 is advertised in the South China Morning Post very close to page 1 at a heavy discount in Hong Kong terms. Even with it's 95pt Parker rating not much has moved up here ( high AUD coupled with so much premium Oz shiraz about ).
I think there will be a period in the not too distant future where Australian wineries will need the support of their faithful. Which would make an increase in 02 Mt Ed disappointing.
A whiff of Brett in this vintage will keep demand down.

My local independant retailer tells me it is due for release in 4-6 weeks & production is 30% of the 2001!
