Up until a year ago I'd offered harsh criticism of this wine as being mean and green and a waste of $. But now this is a beauty!
It's just starting to fade, and picking up some browner tones. Nose is minty and cedary. The palate is classic cabernet: minty, cedary and some beautiful cassis fruit that is still fairly primary. Lovely length. The finish is long and drying: for all their fineness the tannins still have a powerful grip on this wine. After being so awkward for so long this is now beautifully balanced. Outstanding drink. 92/100

cheers

Wizz,

It should be good, it's had over 1800 years to mature!

I must say I have had a similar experience with this wine. The first I opened a couple of years back left me really unimpressed. The remainder, drunk over the past 6 months were terrific. And I can add that my experiences with the 1996 are shaping up the same way.
