TV/TN: Another Disappointing 1998

Hi All

Seems to be a bit of a recurrent theme from me I'm afraid. This time it's

Jim Barry McRae Wood Shiraz 1998

Colour, brick red but starting to brown at the edges.

Nose, some hints of fruit with a bit of leather.

Mouth, OK I suppose. Clearly a shiraz with some lightish fruit, and some fairly gentle tannins. Shortish aftertaste of mont/eucalypt. Fairly thin in the mouth but not unpleasantly so.

Not the most detailed TN in history I admit, but then maybe that's the (unintentional) point. Really not an awful lot to say about the wine. It's a nice enough drop but I don't think it's going anywhere. Tastes like ordinary plonk but I was expecting much more from this. On release this was a pretty big wine and I had high hopes for it, but it disappointed me on this showing. Could be a duff bottle, but if you have any stashed away I would open one pretty soon, because if this is a representative sample you have a bit of drinking to do in the next while!

Somebody try one and re-assure me that my remaining 4 will be better!

Cheers
