Good cellarable Reds in the $20-$35 Range.. Am i dreaming ?

Post by action2096 »

Hi Guys,

While fairly new to this wine business i have to admit to being well and truly hooked !

Over the last 6 months or so i have tried a number of Reds in the above price range (Mainly Hunter & SA) I now have access to ideal cellaring conditions and was wondering if any of you experts out there could reccomend a few reds to try that fall into this price range that will repay mid term cellaring of 5-10 years or so.

Just to give you an idea of my personal taste here are a few that i have tried and enjoyed recently

Cape Mentell Shiraz - 2001 from what i remember

2003 Tyrells Vat 9 - Not stricly in my price range but $30 from the cellar door at the moment !

2002 Bin 389 - Haven't tried any other vintages but enjoyed this one.
Definetly thinking of purchasing 1/2 a case or so

2002 Grant Burge Filsell -In my humble opinion probably the best i have tried yet from a QPR perspective. Paid $24 in a mixed case

Any reccomendations greatly appreciated along with potential cellaring ability.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris

Sounds like you're a lucky buggar with access to ideal cellaring conditions.

Margaret River is the place for YOU! There are a lots of good reds that would fit your criteria. I think they are some of the best value going around.

Vasse Felix Cabernet
Voyager 2001 Cab/Merlot and 2003 Shiraz
Cape Mentelle 2002 Zinfandel
Edwards Shiraz

I think that all of these would go at least 5 years.

Two great sites that I often visit and recommend you look at (if you haven't already) ;
