TN: Lindemans Limestone Ridge Shiraz/Cab 1997

Hi All

Broke open my 6 pack to see how this was going, no need to worry this has a long life ahead of it:

Lindemans Limestone Ridge 1997 (83% Shiraz 17% Cabernet Sauvignon)

Black colour, no visible signs of ageing (unlike the taster!). Absolutely gorgeous nose, lovely perfume, hints of mint and earth.

In the mouth..holy god it's a monster! The Mrs has never been a fan of Coonawarra wines as they are often "too lightweight" in her opinion. Not this one, she described it as a "blockbuster" and you don't say that too often about 8 yr old Coonawarra wines from unheralded vintages.

Still lots of tannin in here, and some oak floating about but what I liked about it was the purity of the fruit. V concentrated berry flavours. This one needs more time to open up but right now it's a tasty drop.

My only quibble was that it's not overly complex, yet, I'm hoping that it will come with further age. At present it's a v v big and v tasty wine that probably needs food.

It won a truck load of medals and trophies on release (Inc the Hoddart??) and Halliday gave it lots of praise and 94 at the time. On this showing, it is living up to expectations.

I've seen a few of the Coonawarra trio being discounted latley.

Anyone got a comment on the 94 Limestone Ridge?

I recently saw a magnum for $80. No idea about how well it was stored though.

Had a bottle of the '94 on Wednesday. I'd say its at its peak. Secondary fruit notes to the fore, medium to full bodied, lots of dutsy tannins on the lengthy finish. A decent, but not outstanding, wine.

I used be be a fan of the Lindleman "Trilogy" and my fav. is the St.George. The St.George 94 was the best I had.
