2003 Redbank Sally’s Hill Pinot Noir – 15% - Pyrenees, Victoria
Broad, sweet, smooth, powerful wine of plums, strawberry jam and sweet rhubarb with very little acid. The wine is seamless and long, the length assisted well by the alcohol but I did not expect the label to reveal 15%, as the fruit covers the alcohol excellently, as it is barely noticeable and is not an aspect on its own. Tannins are present but very, very fine. Lovely, hedonistic Pinot Noir of high quality but too sumptuous to be magical. 17.6/20. $30. I picked this wine as Victorian Pinot Noir and not from Yarra Valley.
For your information, the "Sally's Hill" label is Redbank's premium label, just under the one-wine "Sally's Paddock" label.
