TN- Penfold's Bin 389 2001

Picked up a bottle at Duty Free in Malaysia- $27 Aud which is very good value and has no comparison from France/USA QPR in the region.
Youthful, dark-purple, red hue.
Sticky, jammy-blackberry nose with vanillan oak prominent initially. Would have to say cloying! Time and faith reveals cleaner blackberry fruit with aromatics of fine red berries and the notable bed of background oak becomes savoury.
Smooth mouthfeel, medium to full bodied, with more blackberry on the palate and some leafy mint and background smokey oak. The tannins persistant and grainy. The finish long and distinctly Penfolds.
A good wine for a generation seeking expeditious gratification.
Would be a 90pt wine if I could just match it with a dish without a concern of some fruit sweetness coming through in overbearing fashion.
