2002 Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz

I had a creamy mushroom pasta dish with this wine tonight, and I found both suited each other very well. I've paced myself, savouring the wine and over three hours I've polished off 2/3 of the bottle. The rest I will leave for tomorrow night. The nose was very pleasant and changed its aromatics over the three hours it was open. I picked up anise, cedar, vanilla and raspberries without the spicyness that I've heard other people mention. Later in the piece, I also picked up an 'earthiness' quality that was waving a flag in the background, promising independence in years to come. The palate followed on with blackcurrant, chocolate and sweet fruit in a lovely combination. The finish lingers and like a cigarette, my hand involuntarily went back for another 'drag'. There is a sufficient acid backbone for good longevity and although the tannins are yet to integrate, I like'em dry.

C'mon guys, this wine is great value at $20. I'll buy a case, half to satisfy my short term craving, half to satisfy my post addiction temptation. Delicious.

I had a bottle of this last night. Ddin't make any notes though the impression was good. Nice now and will be much better in 10 years.
Cheers
