1992 Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon – 13.5%
A nose of dark berries and savoury earthiness, showing noticeable development. Medium bodied, the palate screams Cabernet. Blackcurrant, herbs and roast capsicum still dominate the palate with earthiness, leather, tar and iodine in the background. An undoubtedly complex wine, although the herbs seem slightly disjoined with the blackcurrant and darker berries, and the palate looses depth on the back. Fine, slightly chalky, slightly dusty tannins carry the wine to a pleasing end. It is a wine with many enjoyable aspects but also a few that cause it to lose focus. Not getting any better with age. 16.5/20.
