2002 Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Riesling – Watervale, Clare Valley
Bright straw with a greenish tinge. Lime and apple blossom with some white minerals, a little lemon, a little kero and a little toasty development. The palate is broad, ripe, satisfying and long, still with the tingling acidity that I remember of 2 years ago. This wine does not have, never had, and is not meant to have, the body weight of other 2002 Rieslings yet, such as the Petaluma, but this wine has time on its side and will fill out over the next 5-10 years. It definitely has the length and structure to do so. A lovely, lovely wine whose rating will increase from 18/20. I am most pleased to have another 12 bottles in the cellar.
