Decanting time for 2001 Henschke Mt Edelstone

Post by Guest »

I am planning on opening one of these wines at a private tasting later this week. I'm hoping that someone can give me on advice on the number of hours decanting time required for it to open up and being showing its stuff?

Thanks in advance.

AS,

When I opened my latest one back in October, I let it breathe for about 45 minutes before pouring my first glass (I couldn't help myself). However, the company of three certainly sat on their first glasses for quite a while, althought admittedly they were Riedels filled with a substantial quantity (when are they not?). If only there was a ratio for oxidation occuring in glass compared to bottle. I found that the wine was great to begin with, right down to the last drop. It did change, but not in a major way that only a couple hours of air would provide.

So to answer your question, I was very happy with the performance after only an hour of breathing, but I do prefer my wines more feminine than masculine...

Cheers,
Max
