After many reports of high levels of brett in this vintage and having struck a bad one after 3 that were Ok I decided to ask Seppelts if they would consider replacing my remaining two with the 94 vintage.

Seppelts arranged to pick up the two bottles for testing a couple of weeks ago and I received a phone call today with the test results. Both bottles were found "not to style" and with evidence of brett being the cause. My replacement 94 vintage bottles will arrive shortly.

Thank you Seppelts for efficiently and honestly dealing with this problem.

Brian tasted the '94 during our recent visit to the Barossa, head and shoulders above 2002 Original Sparkling Shiraz tasted alongside it. I was also very impressed by the Barossa Valley Estates 1999 E&E Sparkling Shiraz. My TN Dense cherry red, almost purple it gave off mountains of blueberry/blackberry and pepper notes. A truly mouth-filling wine, that carried its fruit flavors through on retronasal. Very well balanced, with a lengthy finish. The only drawback was that the bubbles just did not last in the glass.

Mike, I would hope the SRSS 94 impressed more than the 02 SS, it's 4 times the price! I think the 2002 has a fair way to go yet, the most recent one tried was showing some benefit from a little bottle age already, I think it will develop for a few years yet.

I haven't tried the 99, the 97 was awful, I liked and bought the 98, it is still around in many shops. My favourite of the moment is the Primo Estate Joseph NV 2003 disgorgement, a very nice complex drop, it blew away a 90 Seppelt SRSS in New Year drinking, I've just bought another 6-pack.

I found the 96 E&E Sparkling to be too oaky for me, and its going to Langtons.

Why not the Trading Plonk section?

FWIW, I tried it on release and didnt but any, one of the few 96's I passed on.
