The plan was to open this alongside a bottle of 1996 Galah Cabernet Malbec (Same grapes, different winemaker) and check out the differences but our evil plan went astray as the Galah was corked - curses!

Anyway, the Wendouree was great, with a compelling nose of blackfruits, dusty cherry and plums, the palate was stacked with intense layers of fruit tannins that gripped your teeth and tried to shake them loose. This wine is lovely but agressive and needs quite a few more years under the firm yoke of a cool cellar. Probably my most enjoyable Wendouree so far!

A friend who has a very large collection of Wendouree says the Cabernet Malbec is often their best wine in his opinion and he rates the 96 version very highly.

I still can't believe the "flat earth" disciples who still bleat about the qualities of cork. Here's yet another much awaited comparison destroyed by tree bark.
