1994 LakeÂ’s Folly Cabernets Reserve (Hunter Valley)
65% cabernet sauvignon, 15% petit verdot, 10% shiraz, 10% merlot. 12.4% A/V. Beautiful mid-red colour with stunning clarity. Lovely. Bouquet is rich, with hints of violets, forest mulch, blackberries, prunes and some classic leathery characters in the background. The palate is refinement par excellence, with an elegance that would make Mount MaryÂ’s Quintets weep. Beautiful length, beginning to develop complexity and entering its drinking window. Structure is full and the balance impeccable. No hint of oak or acid, just one fluid wine. Showing extremely well despite drunk outdoors on a hot and sultry Sydney day with temperatures hitting 30C (88F). Lovely wine in every regard, and should get better over the coming decade.
