A muted nose to start with, after decanting it opened up to give off some very nice aromas of smoke and blackfruits. A medium bodied palate with lovely elegant fruit flavours and supple tannin structure. Interesting nuances of fine chocolate and licorice running through a somewhat medium finish. An excellent wine !

Very much an under-rated vintage - the no-oak treatment (well almost) really works well in the tough years.

It was very rough and ugly for the first few of years from release (acidic, weak raspberry cordial was my description), coincidentally during the suggested ROP 4 2000-2002 drinking window!

We opened one Christmas 2003 after hearing the wine had finally blossomed, and it was brilliant. Not surprisingly the ROP 5 has extended the drinking window outwards - very appropriate in this case.

Cheers

A bit off topic, but has anyone cracked open a '95 Grange of late? I'm looking at supplying one for a 50th dinner and want to make sure I'm not too late/early in terms of drinking window.

Cheers
