Hi guys....need some advice:
I will be visiting Adelaide Hills in March...which wineries are the "not to be missed ones" that are open to the public? I prefer red stuff but dont mind a splash of white every now and then especially oaked chards.
thanks

The Hills are not really my style of wines but the one I always visit if I'm in the area is Ashton Hills, very good wines, brilliant Pinot (so my c-through friends tell me!). They are only open on weekends though.
Mt.Lofty Vineyards is another good boutique and an interesting new one in Handorf, think it's called Hahndorf something.
There is a very good new brochure/booklet put out by SA tourism which gives details of all CDs including some newly opened ones. I'm sure they'd send one.

Petaluma is a standout. Others worth a look include Nepenthe, Chain of Ponds, Shaw & Smith, Barratt and Ashton Hills. Maybe Malcolm Creek also. Some are only open on weekends, so get a copy of Halliday and maybe phone in advance.

Yes, Petaluma is a standout, especially if Hugh is still the CD Manager there.
Definitely call in advance (at least 24 hours) for Ashton Hills.
These are my 2 "must-dos", as well as stopping at Hahndorf for lunch.

Stanley Bridge Tavern at Verdun for a lower-priced (compared to Aldgate, Bridgewater Mill etc.) gastro-lunch. Ask for the Cellar Reserve wine list! And if you are splurging, get yourself to the Bridgewater Mill - still the best restaurant in South Australia.

Thanks for the comments. I re-scheduled the trip to Adelaide Hills for the weekend. We were looking for great places to eat - thanks for the advice
