I've had a few of these over the last year and generally they have been an ok. quaffer that were normally finished on the day of opening. This bottle was opened for a guest two days ago and left to stand after only one glass being poured.
Color is a deep inky/purple almost black. Hugged the glass well after a few swirls, great legs.
Nose is pepper, spice, menthol, herbs and there was vanilla oak underneath that was not overpowering.
I was now expecting something from this wine and it didn't dissapoint.
The taste was tight, but very smooth, almost silky. The primary fruit was still there, so I am guessing this wine may still improve for another year or two before peaking. Chalky, dusty tannins coated the tongue and a dark plummy aftertaste that lingered for about 30 seconds. An earthy, forest floor flavour of ripe dark berries was the predominant taste.
For $22, the QPR is pretty good.
A great wine to give as a present to someone who has just discovered the wonders of the red grape and to get their enthusiasm going stronger. Would also go well with a wood fired vegetarian pizza.
