Wynns 50 years of Cabernet

Post by 707 »

Wynns held a huge tasting of every vintage of Wynns Cabernet from 1954 in Coonawarra a couple of weeks back that all the scribes attended.

Has anyone seen a write up?

Wondering what they looked like and whether the scribes commented on recent quality issues with the brand?
Cheers - Steve
If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!

Huon Hooke dedicated his weekly article in this Tuesday's SMH's Good Living to it. From memory, he alluded to a drop in quality throughout all the 1970s and 1980-81 due to wine judges' preferences for greener, "more Bordeaux" Cabernet, but this changed from 1982 with John Wade. He also addressed the drop in quality issue in a round-about way by mentioning that a much greater percentage of vines are hand-picked and pruned, mostling Cabernet.

He also went through the Black Label vintages that he was most impressed with.

Chris Shanahan did a similar write up in the Canberra Times last Sunday.

Perhaps you can find it on their website?
