1982 Veuve Cliquot (Champagne, France)
A$40 on release (if memory serves). Lovely golden hues. No mousse to speak of but with persistent fine bubbles throughout for the one hour the bottle lasted. Lovely bouquet of toast, yeast and cashews. Quite powerful still and fresh. Excellent palate, rich and intense. Very masculine wine that has lasted well and is drinking very well. HasnÂ’t evolved very much in last decade but remains fresh and toasty and powerful. Very full and rounded palate but lacking that meticulous honey development that I crave so much in aged prestige marque champagnes. Our sommelier loved it. Big wine and needed food (which it got and went well with).
90 / 100
