Need help - buying wine for my parent

I would like to buy any wines which are suitable for chili food "Thai food". Price is not important but I want my parent like them. I have no idea about wine at all. Welcome all suggestion.. Thank in advance

I'll admit to no expertise here, but wine & food matching is an imprecise art, so I'll go for a sweeping generalisation!

Generally accepted combinations would be Riesling, Gewurztraminer or Sauvignon Blanc (all white wines) - though I also saw Champagne suggested recently, which might be a nice idea if it's for a celebration.

Personally, my best match so far has probably been with an Alsace (France) Gewurztraminer by Trimbach.

Hi Apprentice, noe of course I wouldn't be drinking whites with Thai but my friends seem to most often bring Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc and thoroughly enjoy the match.

Any of the current vintage Clare Valley Rieslings would be ideal and for Sauvignon Blanc see if you can find the Wither Hills from NZ, that (according to friends) is excellent.

Let us know what you eventually buy and how it went.

I hear verdelho is good with spicy food - counteracts the heat supposedly.

I usually have something like a Charles Melton or Turkey Flat Rose or Rockford Alicante Bouchet.

Brown Bros Dolcetto and Syrah (chilled) is apparently a beautiful match with Indian curries. Might work with Thai also.

For whites, Gewurztraminer is an old favourite with spicy food. Riesling may work also. As far as I'm concerned, Sav Blanc and Verdelho are only good matches for my sink.

For reds, Chain of Ponds Novello Nero works well with spicy food. Or any lighter red - Gamay (rare in Australia), Sangiovese, Grenache. Maybe pinot, but don't waste anything too good.
