I would appreciate if you could help me out here to select the appropriate wine for a function "running on budget"
food: canapes
time: evening function in December

white:
Hardy's semillon chardonnay
Deakin estate sauvignon blanc
Tyrrell's moores creek chardonnay
tyrrel's old winery sauvignon blank semillon
blue pyrenees sauvignon blanc
devils lair fifth leg
chapel hill unwooded chardnonay

red:
hardys shiraz cab
deakin estate cab sauv
tyrrell's moores creek shiraz
tyrrell's old winery cab sauv
blue pyrenees cab sauv
rufus stone mclaren vale shiraz

prices are inn ascending order, yet I just would like honest responde in regards to the above.

Whites: Fifth leg probably the pick on quality. Maybe the Deakin on price.

Reds: Rufus Stone a standout if it's the 02. Again, probably Deakin as a cheapie, especially if it's the 02.

I'd spend up on the red (Rufus Stone) and go with the Deakin white to recover the money.

Can only agree with Kieran.

The Deakin is quite adequate as a white, you won't really notice any real increase in quality by buying higher up the price scale.

Definitely go the Rufus Stone red, it's clearly the best of that line up and unlike the white range, there is substantial difference in quality from bottom to top.

If it's the 2002 Rufus Stone then it's a real must.

I tasted the Devil's Leg white at a VC last week and thought it rather sugary. Were it me, I'd go for the Tyrrells Sem/SB, but noly on reputation - I've not tried the wine in question.

With reds, assuming reasonable value, you need to go for the most expensive! Especially if anyone's going to have mroe than one glass...!
