TN: Gibson O'Vine Collection Barossa Shiraz 2001

Post by MartinC »

The Gibson's Barossa Vale Wines belong to Viticulturist Rob Gibson. He had worked for Southcorp between 1979 and 1997. His responsibility was ‘batch tracing’ Shiraz vineyards and determining the quality factors. The Vineyard that Gibson purchased belonged to Wilfred Wilksch, which is located at Stockwell in the Barossa Valley. The vineyard was a source of Penfolds Grange material in the 80's from this vineyard

A sensational wine. Explosive nose, powerful palate with exceptional fruits quality, fully loaded with exotic spices & mocha. Not heavy but perfectly balance. Lovely texture followed by great intensity. Finishes with a long aftertaste. As good as it get. The achetype of a Old Vines Barossa Shiraz!

Rgds,
MC

99 Gibsons

I got to try a prior vintage of the Old Vines, I believe it was the '99, and I was underwhelmed. It was elegant to the point of being dull, with a reticent nose and fairly short finish. I don't believe it was corked. Anyone else had a less than wonderful experience with the '99 ?
