Dear Forumites

I am visiting a relative in Canada and would like to buy some French wine so as to help them build up their cellar.

Could anyone please recommend a few medium priced french wines at around the $30 p/b AUD price that I could try and buy here in Canada.

Your help would be most appreciated.

You might want to ask the same question here: http://www.winefanatic.ca/ (a Canadian wine forum)

I am sure they would be in a better position to answer your question, although you do need to register I think.

Mark Bredif Vouvray 1985, Domaine de la Vougeraie Terres Famillie 2000, Chateau Cissac 2000, Chateau Potensac 2001, Chateau Mazeris 2000......some good value coming out the satellite appellations in Bordeaux....Languedoc.....regions like Pic st Loup......Cahors......have a look at the Chateau du Cedre Cahors...they are good value......lots of value in the South West.

Guigal's Rhone expressions ( Gigonda's, Villages, St Joseph ) safe, cellarable ( though sometimes elemental compared to their appellations ) French wines.

Thanks to those that replied.

In the end, I found that there is a reasonable selection of Aussie wines here at the LCBO's. ( the only retail wine outlets that are run by the government).

I bought them a selection of the following.

2001 - 407 and 389 - both for $36 AUD
1999 - Grand Pyrenees CS - $38 AUD
2002 - Wynns Shiraz - $21 AUD

all a bit more expensive that at home, but I also found the 1999 Wolf Blass Plat. Shiraz for $88 AUD and bought that which we'll be drinking tonight with a nice pepper steak. Why the price difference for this wine.
