Vertical tasting of Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002. Vintage 2002 and 1999 were found to be the best among the lot. The 1998 was good, with a well balanced palate, but very much less intense nose compared to the 2002 and 1999 which had much more structure and intensity. The 1997 was very interesting and seemed to provide a slight oily "glycerine-like" feel - very unique.

I have not tried the 1997 but agree with your thoughts. I thought the 1999 OV was the best, especially with its savoury complexity. Yes, it is brett. The 2002 looks like it will be the best of the lot in a few years.
