Not long ago I said ,I will be trying as many 2002 reds as possible.

My most recent ones are disappointing.

Rockbare McV Shiraz no fruit just oak!!

Taylors Shiraz all charry oak yuk!!

Shotfire Ridge lots of oak but some fruit.

Why dont these wine makers let some fruit thru??

I have also found this with 2001

Yalumba Barossa Shiraz

And the worst of all BallastStone Shiraz, not the first one 15 months in oak.
But the second bottling 20 months in oak.

A lot of the very early releases of a new vintage are at the inexpensive end so there are bound to be some disappointments. The only one I have tried on your list was the Shotfire Ridge and the bottle you had must had been off. The wine I tried has lashings of fruit, it was fruit drive. Also there is a pack of cray Americans who are going ballisticially ga gar over this wine, its great fruit and value. On the US boards its the 'hot' topic of the moment. They are all chasing it like we had people chasing 98 Grange. Strange but true.

You should also bear in mind that if you are drinking a 2002 red you are drinking a very young (and prbably very recently bottled) wine. Some of these wines might need a bit more time in the bottle to show thier best.

Agree with Ric, the Shotfire I had was very fruit driven.
