The Wine Idol contest aims to bolster Australian exports, writes Valerie Lawson.

We've had Pop Idol, American Idol, Australian Idol, but wait, there are more drops of idolatry on the horizon: Priest Idol, to be broadcast on British TV next year and now a new Australian production, Wine Idol.

What makes Wine Idol stand out, however, is that its producer is the winemaker Hardy's, which has a quarter of the British wine market.

British contestants will compete to be the face of the Australian wine brand and have until the end of the month to enter the race to become the next Jamie Oliver of wine. Entrants must be between 25 and 35 and a "wine whizz", not a "wine bore". More->

Jeez Ric - for a minute there I thought you'd qualify!! :P

Anyone interested here is the entry form.

I'd vote for Torb...we have different palates..but i really rate his honesty and he is a gentleman..which is more than can be said for some people who grace these forums...one day i'd love to pour him a pinot that makes him go "wow"

Cheers

Ric is certainly one of the few who does take a ribbing in a good natured way.

We should hold a little vote or poll, and inform Hardys of our decision - rather a TORB than a Jamie Oliver look-a-like to represent Oz wine.

Like all good wines, they age gracefully, yet this contest, only likes wines that are still young and that rules out TORB
