TNS: 2002 Mad Dog Shiraz & 2000 Oakridge Cabernet Sauvig

Post by Adair »

2002 Mad Dog Shiraz: Ripe cherries and blackberries of great depth and excellent intensity meshed with sweet spices and cloves. Rich, smooth and layered with cushion-like tannins that create a smooth, swirling sensation on the back palate and a very long finish. A wine obviously made with very high quality grapes in a hedonistic style that rarely entices my palate, due to most wines in this style being flabby/unstructured, however, although the structure of the wine is cushion-like as opposed to fine, it is enough to provide the drinker with a hedonistic experience without cloying. Rated Highly Recommended/Excellent, it is a wine that may get slightly better in the short-medium term but will hold for a while longer.

2000 Oakridge Cabernet Sauvignon: Another very high quality Cabernet Sauvignon coming out of the Yarra Valley. Very ripe Cabernet fruit balanced well with savoury oak, although the savouriness is quite noticeable. Excellent depth and power. Ripe and fine integrated fully submerged in the fruit, yet provides a great framework. Lovely wine. Rated Highly Recommended/Excellent.

I have been drinking well recently!

Funny you should post this, for tonight I cracked the 1991 Reserve Cabernet with Fillet Mignon. Verging on Outstanding, this wine has now reached its peak drinking plateau. Will have to hold one back for you before they're all gone.

Agree with you on the Mad Dog, an excellent wine.
