Started with nefarious whites (not important)
2001 Woodlands Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon,
big wine hints of spice black current and mint, new oak subtly in the background strong fine tannnins great length and heaps of fruit
lovely balance, too young
01 Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon
NO BRETT Huge Fruit hints of cedary oak in background backed up by solid wall of fruit, on palate ver large fine grain tannins this wine is still young intense solid palate , high alcohol, needs time
02 Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon
Hard to tell already been open for a day or two lots of fruit not hint of brett just slightly oxidised fine almost elegent compared to 2001 great tannins cracked from the same mould as 2001
96 Willespie Cabernet Sauvignon
Big ripe smell oak not obtrusive not alot of new oak big fruit driven style
nice vannilin smell, nice rich fruit on palate, a little short maybe low in acid ? still in good nick for 96 will go a little longer
90 E & E Black Pepper Shiraz
(the odd one out it was this or an 88 Pontet Canet, maybe considering theme should have gone with Pont but couldnt help it this E & E was sooooo good)
Huge Fresh mint nose on first pass , quickly blowing off to the great big chunk of pencil box, cocconut oak nose going hand in hand with huge ripe fruit this wine is soooo youthful will go another couple of years yet, so much fruit on palate, this is a great wine.!
84 Willespie Cabernet Sauvignon
Still fresh but has older M.R. Smell like cloves and forrest floor still some fruit with nice acid nice soft tannins on palate with nice length , really a fruit driven style i think. This wine should be consumed now , i think it has hit its peak ? but still nice to finish evening
Sorry if i havent put enough descriptors in but i assure you i had a great night
sitting here early morning writing post enjoying nice vintage of iced coffe (west aus Brownes) 2003 I think
