Thorn-Clarke William Randell Barossa Valley Shiraz 2002 $31.99USD
Dense cherry red with red edge. Very open, big chocolate and vanilla. Dusty oak and faint pepper. Good mouthfeel, fine tannins and clean acid finish. Flavors carry through on a pronounced retronasal. A very well balanced wine with years ahead of it. (Former notes from a Vinum glass. Using an ISO the most pronounced character was pepper!) Went very well with BBQÂ’ed Bratwurst, becoming softer in the mouth but still keeping a clean finish. (Its hard writing a TN when you have a dog tapping your knee with her paw, reminding you that the last bit of Brat you have on your plate is really herÂ’s and she would like it now, please!)

After 24 hours the wine had a slightly hot character but nice blackberry and port-like flavors, soft tannins, clean acid finish, and a prolonged retronasal. 13.9% alcohol. 2,2,4.5,10 = 18.5. (Tasted July 20-21.)

I thought this was a good drop too. Perhaps will hit its peak in about 2011.
