Pretty fair lunch

Post by RogerPike »

I hosted a "best bottle" lunch today and there were a few gems. I was too busy to take any notes but the rankings were very interesting. Eight bottles, served blind, in approximate ranking order:
'95 Greenock Creek Seven Acre Shiraz - joint WOTD and my personal favourite - classic Barossa Shiraz at it's best.
'96 Grange - most of us rated this above the '98, one of which we sunk a couple of weeks ago.
'95 Moss Wood Cabernet - Aussie cabernets don't come any better than this.
'90 Wendouree Shiraz/Malbec - Wonderful, massive wine, would like to try it again in another 14 years!
'98 St Emillion - sorry, can't remember the label but most picked it as a Clare/McLaren Vale cabernet, a big wine, would love another crack at this in 5 years time.
'94 John Riddoch - Classic Coonawarra but struggling in this company
'91 St Hallett Old Block - The only wine in the line-up starting to show it's age
'92 St Henri - Not fair to rate this last, drinking well, years left in it but submerged by blockbusters.

No corked bottles, no stink, no RBT - a good day.
